Choosing & Booking A Wedding Band Everything You Need To Know
Follow our step by step guide to finding and booking the perfect band for your wedding.
Good bands will probably be booked as far as 6 to 12 months possibly 18 months in advance so early booking is essential if you want the best.
Step 1
Decide on the size and style of band you would like. For example: Classical Quartet Dance / Swing Band Jazz Band Pop Act Theme Band Tribute Band Traditional Music
Step 2
Check how much you have included in your wedding budget for a band and make some initial enquiries about bands that play in the area. Ask the hotel for a list of bands that have played at at the hotel Ask friends if they can recommend any good bands - perhaps from a wedding, gig or other event they have attended
Step3
- You need to listen to at least three or four bands. Ask the following questions:
- Is the band available on the date of your wedding
- How much does the band charge per hour / per evening
- How long has the band been together
- Does the band usually perform at weddings Request a demo tape or better still ask if you can see the band perform live
- How much of a deposit is required to confirm a booking
- Ask if you can make a provisional booking and leave your phone number
Step4
So you have decided on the band you like best. Ask the following questions then confirm the booking as soon as possible
- Is the date still available
- What is the total cost and what exactly are you getting
- Are there any extra costs not included in the fee quoted
- What happens if the meal etc is delayed and the band have to start later
- What is the payment schedule and cancellation policy (in case you change your mind about the band!)
- Can the bandleader act as your Master of Ceremonies.
- Will the band accept a list of specific songs you wish to be played W
- hat types of music do they play / not play
- Can the band provide you with their song list
- Will the band play continuously or will there be a break - how long
